LOVE

One simple word.

Four simple letters.

Just a word. But these four little words can’t even begin to describe the emotion of which the word itself is supposed to convey.

Love…I think..is the most complicated and hardest emotion to uncover. How do you know if you’re in love? How do you know that it isnt simply a mix of complicated hormones that makes you feel this way? Do you even understand it? Love is undefinable. You can’t have a set definition for every case, because love comes in many different forms.

I mean..theres all different kinds of love. The way we love our friends..the way we love our family and the way we love our boyfriends, girlfriends, husbands or wives.

I have recently been told, that because of my age (17) that I have no idea what love is. But…I mean..no one is too young to understand it. And I know we all know those people who say they love their boyfriend after a day and then end up breaking up after dating for a week when they’re teenagers..

But I think they know what love is and what in their terms they want it to be..I just think that they want to fall in love so quickly, they just kind of say it. But I’ve had substantially long relationships full of emotions and feeling and yes, love. Love as I understand it to be. I don’t think that anyone has the right to tell another person that they have no grasp on what love is. Because to everyone, it’s different.

I hate bringing up the movie “Secretary” again, but that movie does such a good job of showing different forms that love comes in and the different ways people show love. People can say “I love you”…but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they do. The words and the emotion are so completely different, its kind of offensive that we have a term for the undefinable word. Instead of saying “I love you”, show it. I think everyone would admit that someone showing their love feels better than simply hearing the “I love you”.

 And we seem to see in all these movies like Sleeping Beauty and Snow White, as children, how people fall in love by simply looking at each other and who barely know each other, so aren’t we brought up to think that there is love at first sight and that we don’t need all that time to be in love. It’s accepted in movies that people fall in love in 3 days, but in real life, people would only think that you’re some dumb, lovesick teenager.

So even though I don’t believe in love at first sight, I still think its possible for two people to be in love when they first see each other, like destiny or something…but I don’t think its a phenomenon. I believe love comes in all shapes, sizes, colors and forms. You should be the only person to determine that. Love is a gift…and as the reciever and giver of it, with usually no control over it, we can only stand and watch to see just what love has in store for us.
